When Is the best time to stat working out?

When should I have started?

Yesterday but now is all you’ve got.

“When is the best time to start Working out?” I get this question all the time. I have been training people since 2014. In all my years of training, I have witnessed various levels of self-doubt in my clients. You see, most of my clients are between the ages of 30-50. Many of them have waited years to start working out and eating right. In fact, A good majority of them came to me because their doctor told them their blood pressure was getting too high or that they might be prediabetic. So, for the most part, they are here out of necessity.

Before you can start working out in my group fitness classes at Total Body Training I conduct a consultation. In this 1 on 1 consultation, the client will tell me what their fitness goals are. They also share their medical history with me. As a result, many people will share their doubts about working out.

Many of them will ask me, “But aren’t I too old to start working out?”. They go on to explain to me that they missed their genetic peak and that they might not see results. This is interesting because these clients are oftentimes only a couple of years older than me. Most of them are in their late 30’s or early 40’s. So, these clients are by no means elderly. It’s at this point that they usually ask me, “When is the best time to start working out?”. The answer to that question might surprise you.

When is the Best time to start working out?

Younger is better but I don’t have a time machine.

“When is the best time to start working out?” The truth is that it would have been great if you started working out and taking care of your health in your early teens or 20’s. The truth is that your body was more hormonally actives at the time in your life then it will ever be again. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t lose weight or tone up in your 30’s and 40’s. You are just going to have to put in a little extra effort then you would have back in your 20’s. I always think of this quote when I talk about this topic. The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” – Chinese Proverb

You are completely capable of losing weight, toning up, and getting fit at any age. Sure, it would have been great if you had started working out in your 20’s but you didn’t. Reflecting back on that time period in your life isn’t fair to the person you are right now. Wishing you had started taking care of your body at a younger age is fine but only if you are using that to help you change what you plan on doing now.

The conclusion to When Is the best time to start working out?

The best time to start is now.

In summary, please remember that wallowing in the past is unproductive. Instead of longing for what you no longer have, focus on what you do have. What do you have? Have the present moment and all you have to do is start working out and taking care of yourself today.
