What Will gyms look like when they reopen | News

Gyms have been closed for over a month now leaving fitness enthusiast sitting on their couch at home eating way to much junk food and watching all Of Netflix.

However, some gyms are reopening in America. This was made possible by the White and your local government. A question a lot of people are wondering is, is it safe to go back to gyms yet? What will gyms look like after the reopen? What kinds of precautions are gym owners taking to keep their gyms safe?

On to the Information

As I talked about in previous video Called “When will gyms reopen”. Gyms are starting to reopen In different parts of America. Not all gyms states have reopened their gyms yet so go watch the video for latest information about that topic. Regardless, gyms are opening up again and eventually all gyms will reopen.

Gym owners and Gym goers are excited about this. However, many of us are wondering what will gyms look like when they reopen? Will us weightlifters be able to lift weights without masks on? Will People In Yoga Classes have to ware hazmat suites while the practice their Chatarunga? Finally, and Most importantly, will old men stop walking around the locker room completely butt naked in the locker room? I’m talking about you Larry. Don’t you walk away Larry. You Sicko.

No but Seriously. What are gyms doing to reduce to minimize the spread of covid in their gyms?

Well, for starters. I Will talk about Texas. Let’s talk about the amount of people that will be allowed to go back the gym at a time. On May 5/5/2020  Greg Abbott announced that Gym can reopen on May 18th but they will only be allowed to open at 25% capacity.

Essentially, gyms will look the way they do right before the Christmas Holidays. Because no body goes to the gym during time of the year? Goals? Oh, yeah, I forgot about those months ago!

I digress, for more on this topic I looked up what some the major commercial gyms are doing. Jim Rowley is the CEO of Crunch Gyms, they came up with a 37 page manual will detail “sanitation and disinfection guidance.”

“Every location will have prominent sings explain what customers can except and consider mindfulness. There will be yellow arrows on the floor to tell people where they should stand so that they can maintain distance amongst each other.” Jim Rowley in NBC Article, Gyms are eager to reopen, but are they safe?

Others Gyms will be doing similar things.

Harvey Spevak, CEO of Equinox says that “they had already upped their cleaning practices.  Before closing but researching and implementing additional safety measures”

Others gyms have gone public in expressing extremely detailed plans for reopening their gyms. Golds gym CEO Adam Zeitsiff has outlined their phase plan Corporate Owned Golds gyms.

Phase 1 states their gyms will reopen at limited capacity and gym equipment would be alternated in between usage.

Phase 2 Have group fitness classes starting back up but at limited capacity. Kids clubs would reopen as well

Phase 3 has the gym would go back to normal.

Look all of the corporate gyms have their similar approaches. It does seem like some gyms owners are a little more cautious than others. Take Harvey Spevak not opening up in Georgia right away. He did seem more concerned about the healthy of his clients. La Fitness actually did the exact same thing. In fact, they didn’t open up their Georgia location on April 1st. They had originally planned to open up but they changed their mind saying the following  it

“So, although we had originally set a target date of May 1 for our first market reopening, specifically Georgia, we decided to hold off for now while we seek a greater consensus between the federal, state and local authorities on the proper path forward.”

It’s really cool to see these gyms taking us and our health into consideration. I mean. They totally could have just opened up. And gyms are hurting right now.

In addition to all of the precautions that gyms will be putting in place for, one things still remains unclear to me and that is, Are we going to have to wear masks while working out? Well, there was never actually a law that stated that we need to wear masks when we go out. However, the scientific community has strongly suggested that wearing masks will reduce the chances of getting or spreading the virus.

In a recent press conference in April. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has stated

“No jurisdiction can impose any type of penalty or fine,”

For people not wearing their masks.

Which stores require face masks

to be worn in San Antonio?

Explains that different companies are already coming forward and requiring their customers to wear masks. HEB and Cost Co. are requiring their employees and customers to wear masks. But Sams on the other hand only requires their employees to wear masks. Their clients don’t have to.

Heck Whole foods is actually giving their customers free disposable masks upon entry into Whole Foods. Which is the least they can do for selling $10.00 organically grown Bananas. Nice to see that I’m finally getting my moneys worth.

So, what does this mean for gyms? I haven’t seen a single gym mention this yet. I googled it and found nothing. But I found nothing about this topic. So, I m going to be sounding out an email to golds gym here in San Antonio to see what they have to say.

Here a tip, even if your gym doesn’t require you to wear a mask you should probably still do it. When you your generally exerting yourself. In fact, that’s the whole purpose of working out. You push yourself to sweat and you start breathing heavily. Its just a part of working out. So, I think wear a mask is something simple you can do to keep yourself safe and keep people safe in your gym.
