Today we talk about self care and the misconceptions associated with that term and what I do to care for myself. Critical Acts that set you out for balance and success in your personal and professional life. These are acts you preform to help you have a better daily life. Making sure you are balanced to make sure you feel good so you can preform at your job or life.
Let’s touch on some misconceptions of self care. Massage, steak, drinking, distracting yourself with mindless things, and partying… these are all examples of some activities people label as self care. Now, I’m not saying all of these are terrible, but often times over indulging in these things may be self-sabotaging activities. Sometimes people get really fancy with their self care, but I’m here to share low-cost and effective daily tasks that can help with your self care routine. Here’s what I do for self care.
1. Solid morning routine. I’m not a fan of heavy morning work outs, but I do believe in some type of physical activity. I usually walk, run or do some stretches to get my mind sharp and going. This helps balance me and keeps me organized.
2. Quality time with a significant other. For me it’s quality balance and helps me give me a sense of personal balance in my life.
3. Yoga is another options for my self care routine. It’s a way to move my body in a way that I normally do not do. An added benefit for me is the mediation aspect that is sometimes incorporated in yoga classes.
4. If I’m feeling physically tired, I will sit in bed and zone out and work. For me, it helps relax my body and I will do some creative work that I enjoy doing. Like creating ads, making graphics, or editing photos. I really try to be one with what I’m doing.
5. I also really enjoy reading books. Graphic novels and self-help books really help me relax and take time off from the hustle and bustle.
6. Sitting still is another way to practice self care. Sometimes the stillness is the move, meaning I just need to sit still and be in the moment.
7. Doing legs up the wall and letting the blood flow helps me relax and calms me when I’m stressed.
8. Listening to self-growth podcasts or books, I love growing as a person and becoming a better person.
9. If I’m super stressed, I will focus on others or put some good into the world and focus less on myself. Random acts of kindness really help me get out of my stress and improves my relationships.
These are just a few items I do for self care that help me keep a balance, low-stress life. What do you do for self care?
