I’ve had a lot of questions recently about how I create my content. Today I’m going to share my tips on how to build content. In 2018 I’ve produced over 60 Podcasts and 40 videos, so I’m here to share my experience on how I do it all.
- Create indiscriminately. When you are trying to go through the creative process don’t discriminate your thoughts. If I’m making content here for Total Body Training, where it starts is with brainstorming. I’ll sit down and start listing off ideas and let the thoughts flow. I list everything that comes to mind, even if it’s a similar topic to previous thoughts. That’s why I don’t discriminate during my mind dump.
- Use what you have. What I’m talking about is equipment and technology. Today I use a camera and microphone that work for me, but when I started I used just my phone because that’s all I had. I didn’t have the money to buy a fancy camera or microphone; I just used what I have to build what I do. Don’t shit on the equipment you do have, everyone starts somewhere!
- Just make it.I’m sure you can think of 1,000,000 reasons why you can’t or shouldn’t make it. Don’t let these excuses get in your way, don’t over analyze and just make the content. Just do the shit without worrying about what everyone else is thinking or your excuses your brain is making.
- Make small improvements. After you make your first Podcast or video, that’s where you make some small adjustments. From the beginning you will see what’s right and what’s wrong, it’s the subsequent review that you will improve and refine your content.
- Rough draft mindset. We have a tendency to think what we make is going to make or break us. The truth is you are thinking to high of yourself. Chances are this video isn’t going to be the one that shoots me into stardom. But when you are making things, you have to realize they are a rough draft. If you think of every project as a rough draft, then you have a freedom in your mind that constantly improves your craft. If you don’t think about the long-term and make meaningful content, you will need to make a lot of it constantly. You have to show up regularly with good, meaningful work.
Create indiscriminately, use what you got, just make it, make small improvements and keep a rough draft mindset. These will help you build your content and get you to where you want to be.
Yo! I’m not a licensed therapist or Doctor, I just talk about real shit that’s happened to my clients and me.
