Let’s talk about the multi-billion dollar industry of supplements. I have three things you should consider before you BUY any supplements and three tips purchasing supplements. The government does not regulate the supplement industry.  Meaning supplements won’t get pulled off the shelves unless several people get injured after digesting these supplements.  But we never know what is actually in these supplements, so what do we do?

Sometimes these supplements are labeled as being a proprietary blend. That means, they are adding other stuff, but you don’t really know what you are getting.  Supplements only make up 3% of your overall progress and development. You don’t really need all of these things if they’re unregulated or untested.  There are a lot of studies out there that support this, if you’re doubting. The 3% of your progress there are only 3 supplements that give you a what you need: a solid protein, casein, or creatine.

Here’s my point about buying them… if you absolutely wantto take some supplements, then listen up.   Go with a brand that’s third party tested.  How do you find that out?  There’s a great app NSF you can download or check out their website to find out if your supplement has what it says it does or Informed Choice is another great resource.  Here’s something to keep in mind: if you’re in a drug-tested sport, your pre-workout may have a no-no ingredient.  Make sure you aren’t taking a supplement to cover another issue.  Go to your doctor first to see if you are actually vitamin deficient. Have you tried to get enough sleep? That’s really important!

I recommend you go to your doctor for a full blood panel before you start taking vitamins or supplements, safety first.  Not everyone is deficient in vitamins and you can get really sick if you don’t need something.  So, do some research, get your doctor on board, and remember supplements only make up 3% of your overall fitness journey.

Yo! I’m not a licensed therapist or Doctor, I just talk about real shit that’s happened to my clients and me.
