But the only way to do that is to make sure that you are doing the movement with good form.

In this video, I explain to you how to use good form when doing the sit up. Most of the problem is that people are really holding their core tight. They are just leaving their abs lose which works but doesn’t work as effectively as squeezing your entire core. How do you do that?Well, When I am laying down on the ground I pick up my legs and hold them up in a chair position. Once my legs are up i like to feel as though I am squeezing my root, so my glutes, squeezing them upwards while feeling like I’m pushing my belly button into my spine. When I go for the crunch, I try my best to actually pick up my shoulders from the ground. A common mistake that people make when doing crunches or sit-ups that they will turtle their heads forward without picking up their upper back off the ground. Although turtling your neck forward will work out your core it won’t work it out as well as if you tried your best to really pick up your upper back off the ground. Picking your upper back off the ground will engage your core much better. Plus, when you turtle your neck forward you run the risk of straining your neck. If you want to work injury-free then you will want to try your best to use the best form possible. When you go up for the crunching part of the chair sit up you’ll want to feel as if you are squeezing your top, middle and bottom of your abs. If you do this then you’ll feel stronger engagement of your abs and that means your working out your abs in the best way possible. So, that’s it, that’s how you do the chair sit up. I recommend throwing these in to one of your workouts. I like doing them after I’m done with all of my main strength training movements.
