Price Gouging Home Gym Equipment and 5 Alternative Ways to Workout from Home
So, About 3 weeks ago I decided to go online to purchase some small barbells and dumbbells for my clients. I quickly realized that workout equipment was in short supply. The reason that equipment was and is in short supply is because of the quarantine. It appears that the moment we all got quarantined people went out and purchased weightlifting equipment they could use from home. I love the fact that people I decided to take their health into consideration and fully support everyone buying what they need to stay in shape during the quarantine. What I am not a fan of is those people who decided to go out and purchased brand new equipment and then resell it on the Facebook market place for more than 2x the original cost. If you go on the Facebook market place right now (4/21/2020) you’ll see that majority of weightlifting equipment is well above the original market value. People are selling a pair of 10Lbs. dumbbells for $40.00. I have seen multiple people selling a Bowflex adjustable dumbbells and power blocks for over $1000.00. This is ridiculous. I know that some of you are thinking you can just go to Academy Sports + Outdoors Website and purchase equipment there but the majority of the weightlifting equipment is gone. In fact, if you go to websites of all the major weightlifting equipment retailers you will see that most of the equipment is gone. So, in this episode of the podcast, I rant about this topic and I also give some suggestions for what to do if you need to work out but don’t have workout equipment. Here are the five suggestions I give in the video.
1. Switch over to doing cardio. So, I know what you are thinking…. But won’t I lose my gains… Maybe and maybe not. I think what is most important is that you keep doing some form of physical activity so that you are still cardiovascularly healthy when the gym reopens. Plus, You will still be burning calories doing cardio. What do you have to lose?
2. Make your own equipment. A while ago I saw a video by Tim Ferris where He was teaching people how to make their own Kettle Bells using some pipes from Home Depot. Its a fairly inexpensive alternative to buying a brand new Kettle Bell. Here is a link to the video that Bodybuilding.com did with him.

If you look around on YouTube you will probably find other people who will teach you how to make your own equipment.
3. HIIT Workout at Home. So, if you work out regularly you’ve probably heard of HIIT. High-intensity interval training. HIIT is one of my favorite ways to work out and I think a lot more people should be incorporating some form of HIIT into their weekly routines. Anyways, there are a ton of useful HIIT videos you can do on YouTube.I actually have my own playlist filled with HIIT Workouts. Here is a link to that YouTube Playslit with my HIIT workout series.

4. Premium Online Workout Classes and Aps. One of the biggest problems that people face when working out from home is not feeling motivated. I believe that a good solution to this is paying for a monthly subscription to some kind of online workout class. This will help you feel like you are a part of something and that you aren’t doing the workout alone. Sure you can do pre-recorded workout videos but sometimes that can feel lonely and with an actual live class you should feel more engaged and enjoy your workout. I mentioned Peleton.com in this video and We also have our on, live workout classes. If you would like some more information about our live workout classes then you can click this link to learn more. 5. Ask friends or family if they have Equipment. So, we all know that person who has a treadmill and dumbbells at their home but never really uses them. You might consider reaching out to that person and asking them if they wouldn’t mind selling your equipment. I actually got this idea because I posted something on Facebook about the price gouging going on with weight lifting equipment and a friend offered to give me her dumbells that she wasn’t using. So there are good people out there! Anyways I hope that you enjoyed this episode of the video about price gouging home gym equipment and 5 alternative ways to workout from home. thanks for watching and reading this video and I hope my tips about finding alternative ways to workout from home have been helpful!
