Today we are going to talk about fitness trends that make people unhappy.  When I was a beginner, I made some mistakes in the past and these things are so tempting!  In terms of fitness trend, usually what I see are quick-fix diets, short-term plans, and those that don’t take the big picture in account.  Now, some of these do work, but don’t last for the long haul & shrink your bank account.   Some of these plans have a shred of truth, you can loose weight doing a crash diet… but it’s not sustainable.  You will see a decrease in strength and may gain the weight back after the program has ended.

I’m just trying to warn you of traps and offer alternative solutions.

First up is any 30-day program, it’s doable to lose weight, but you aren’t making a long term plan and it’s not sustainable.  Most people who do things like 30 day diets and work out plans, don’t actually move on to something else after the program has ended, they haven’t really incorporated healthy habits or exercise program.  If you know you have an event in a year, plan for it now, so your weight loss is healthy and sustainable.  If you lose weight too rapidly, you may lose energy or gain all the weight back at the end.  There’s a problem with losing 3-4 pounds a week, it’s not sustainable, or healthy (it’s science!).  Weight loss blocks should be between 8 months to a year, work with someone who has the big picture in mind.

Next, nothing but shakes! There is nothing wrong with having a protein shake, I have one every day.  The problem is, no one wants to drink just shakes!  These should be supplemented with your already good diet. If you start drinking 2-3 shakes a day, you may find you suffer from low energy and gain all the weight back.

Diet pills are another trap! In the 90’s diet pills were very different and they had ephedrine in them (speed).  When you’re taking this, you will lose weight because it is an appetite suppressant. They are no longer on the market in the U.S.A.  Diet pills at your local supplement store are filled with vitamins, caffeine and other fillers.  It’s definitely a waste of money and will not work.   Find something sustainable!

I’m guilty of this next one, detoxes.  So, your body does a great job of detoxing what’s in it.  You don’t need a kit or any supplements to do this.  If you’re eating crap and decide you want to feel better, just clean up your diet and eat more healthy, fresh foods and your body will do it’s job.  You will find that you will feel better within a few days.

If you see someone’s success with losing weight, there are probably other factors contributing to their success… like a new work-out routine.  It’s not the crash diet or pills that are working for this person, it’s something else.

All I’m saying is do your research, find something sustainable, and look at the bigger picture of change.  I’m not going to argue with anyone about how their program works, I’m just sharing the information I’ve learned working with my clients and mistakes I’ve made.  Think of the long-haul of your health, not the quick fix.

Yo! I’m not a licensed therapist or Doctor, I just talk about real shit that’s happened to my clients and me.
