Watch Your Words | Fit Tips Episode 1.
I have been thinking about making a video about this topic for a while. If you follow me or trained at my studio you probably know a bit about my story and how I struggled with my weight and commitment to my health. One of the key factors that was holding me back was my own self limiting thoughts. I was hyper negative about working out and eating healthy.
My conversations around working out where always sorta negative. I remember that I would before going to workout I would say “UGHHH I HAVE TO WORKOUT!” I would arrive to the gym and even sometimes say “UGHHH I HAVE TO DO SQUATS” it took years for me to realize that I needed to have a better conversation about working out. I would constantly down was doing. So, I started being a little bit more positive in my tone and choice of words. I changed something small. I stopped saying I HAVE to workout out to I WANT to workout. This seems insignificant but it helped me a lot. So, here are my thoughts about this.
Language is everything. The words we speak reveal how we approach our lives. They can either empower you or dis-empower you. It’s easy to view training as a chore, you’ll say I UGH HAVE TO WORKOUT. Nobody wants to HAVE to do anything. In truth, you don’t have to do shit. You can sit at home and watch breaking bad for the 5th time and order a pizza. YOU Don’t HAVE TO WORKOUT. Lets be real here, You want to workout because its you want to change something about yourself.
Whether its your looks, mind or just general health, you are unsatisfied about your current self. You want to change yourself and your body. Say that you want to workout today. Literally, say it. I’m going to the gym because I want to workout I want to see change. Say that instead of UGH I have to workout. Anytime that you catch yourself thinking I HAVE TO Workout, replace it with I Want to and I promise you that little change will help prime you towards success rather than prime you for failure. Try incorporating this into your daily speech and thoughts for the next week and I promise you will see a difference.
