My Fitness Story:

I have not always been in shape.

In fact, for most of my childhood, teen and college years my weight and health fluctuated. For years I would fluctuate between being overweight and being chubby. This affected my health drastically. I was always out of energy and lacked motivation and self-confidence.  In college, I became best friends with a guy named Pete. Pete was in worse shape than me but was beginning to learn the fundamentals of strength and conditioning. Pete persuaded me to start working out. At first, it was tough. I did not enjoy it but I did notice that something inside me was changing. Suddenly, I had more energy. My body was tightening up and I looked better. I started to feel more confident. I was beginning to recognize the importance of strength and conditioning.

After college, I worked a few different jobs but always found myself wondering what it would be like to be around fitness. I eventually, got a job at a big box gym and with time became a trainer. I enjoyed helping others reach their goals. However, I felt that the environment also plays a role in one’s development. It takes more than just training someone… It takes the ability to motivate and to be surrounded by others with the same goal to also motivate each other. It was then that I had an idea. A vision of what it would be like to train at a place that is; warm, personal, and motivating. I  started considering the idea of opening my own strength and conditioning studio.

While I was considering starting my Strength and Conditioning studio I was also training for a full 26.2-mile marathon. I signed up for the San Antonio Rock and Roll Marathon in 2013. I knew this would be a bit obstacle for me to overcome. While I was training for that marathon I was learning something invaluable. I was learning how to be more self-disciplined. This skill of self-discipline is invaluable. One week before the marathon came and I injured my calves while jogging. This was frustrating I considered dropping out of the race but I my self-discipline kicked in. Over the next 7 days did everything I could to ease the inflammation in my calves.

The day of the race came and I was still somewhat injured but I had already committed to this race so I just did it. I ran 26.2 miles that day and every time that I felt a bit of discomfort, I tapped into my self-discipline and just kept going. It was not easy. By the time I reached the finish line, I had not only met my goal but I had also learned how to be a more determined person.

After the marathon, I found myself contemplating self -discipline, and determination. I knew I wanted to teach people these skills and a positive environment. That is when left the gym and started a boot camp class at San Pedro Park. It was called outdoor athletics. A few of my clients followed me to the park where we focused on body weight exercises. I began to build a name for myself. People around the area began joining my classes and within a few months, I moved into a studio that I would call Total Body Training.

That year I grew a lot. I refined my skills and grew my client base. My clients were seeing some great changes in their bodies. In May of 2016, I moved into an even larger facility with more equipment and better programming for my clients. I am so humbled by the growth of my clients and my business.  It is such a great feeling to see people succeeding and not giving up.  I am here to help others get lean, gain muscle and build confidence.
